Packing Shifts:

All Ages Packing Shift

Volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities are invited to join JRA to pack nutritious kosher food and household items during our Monthly Food Distributions. Participating in our food packing assembly line, volunteers carry boxes down the line, while other volunteers place food and other items into the box. After volunteers make it to the end they grab another box and do it again. This process repeats until all food boxes are packed and ready to be distributed. Learn more about delivering food here. Our All Ages Packing Shift starts at 10:00 AM and is a great opportunity for individuals, families, groups of friends, or large volunteer groups to get involved in their community! Learn more about bringing a group here. Advanced registration is required.

Monthly Food Distributions

Every month, JRA has a new volunteer registration link. The 2026 calendar of Food Distributions is now available.

JRA Juniors Packing Shift

JRA Juniors is designed for families with kids under 10 to join us at our warehouse from 9:00 to 10:00 AM one Sunday a month. This is a great way to get more involved with JRA and to start conversations around food insecurity, mitzvahs (good deeds), and volunteering. Advanced registration is required.

Produce Packing Shift

Early risers are welcome to volunteer at our Produce Packing Shift during our Monthly Food Distribution. Individuals will sort bulk produce, which will be included in the food boxes. The produce packing shift begins at 8:30 AM on Distribution Sundays. Produce packing only takes place from October- April. Advanced registration is required and capacity is limited.

Weekday Packing Shifts & Groups

In addition to a box of kosher pantry staples, JRA provides other necessities to recipient families. Once a month, on Thursday and Friday, JRA volunteers are needed to assist with building boxes, packing family-friendly food bags, packing toiletry and household items, and additional tasks as needed.

These shifts are on a first-come basis for groups like schools, corporate groups, summer camps, and other affinity groups. As needed, individuals and families will be invited to volunteer for these shifts. Advanced registration is required.

Food Box Delivery:

Food Delivery (Route Delivery)

Volunteers can support JRA and its recipients by hand-delivering boxes of nutritious kosher food and household items directly to the homes of individuals and families struggling with food insecurity. Volunteers can select a delivery route (or routes!) in advance in a number of different neighborhoods. JRA serves individuals in 90 zip codes throughout Greater Philadelphia. Delivery routes have as few as 1 stop or as many as 15 or 16  stops with an average of around 7 stops. During one of JRA's delivery dates each month, volunteers will arrive at the JRA warehouse between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM to receive their delivery route with instructions and the items to deliver.  Advanced registration is required. If you need help selecting a food delivery route, email volunteering@jewishrelief.org.

Monthly Food Distributions

Every month, JRA has a new volunteer registration link. Check out the calendar of Food Distributions here.

Delivery Instructions

1. Knock or ring the bell and wait a minute, as some recipients move slowly.

  • If the recipient is home and you hand them the box, no further action is needed.
  • If the recipient is home but does not answer the door, please call them to notify them of their delivery. (To block your phone number, dial *67 followed by the number.)
  • If the recipient is not home, leave the items to the side of the door, so no one trips over them. Call the recipient to notify them of their delivery. If they do not answer, leave a voicemail.
  • If you cannot connect with the recipient, leave the items and notify JRA.
  • On your digital route, select the delivery status and add any additional comments for each recipient.

2. If you are delivering to an apartment building, deliver the box to the recipient's unit.

  • If you cannot get into the building, please call the recipient using the phone number and/or alternate number listed in the route paperwork. If you are still unable to reach the recipient, please call/text JRA for assistance.
  • If you are outside the individual apartment and the person is not home, please write the name and apartment number on the box before leaving it to the side of the door. Please contact JRA if there is nowhere to safely leave the box.
  • On your digital route, choose the delivery status and add any additional comments for each recipient.

3. Please make sure to carefully read any delivery instructions on your paper or digital route. They often contain information on how to get in contact with the recipient, where to leave the box, what to do with items if they are not home, etc.

Additional JRA Protocol

  • Do not leave your car unlocked while making deliveries. Take your keys and any valuables with you.
  • Park legally and safely and follow all traffic rules.
  • Children should be supervised at all times while making deliveries.
  • If a recipient appears in distress, please notify the JRA staff and, if urgent, call 911.
  • Have extra items? Call or text 610-660-0190 as soon as you know that you have extra items. JRA will let you know how to proceed.
  • If a food recipient gave you money, donate it back to JRA's Monthly Food Distribution program.
